Lillie T

Approximately 3 three years ago, I went to the doctor a routine checkup and blood work was done. Maybe a week later, the doctor's office called me to come back in because of the blood work. Not having the slighest idea of what the doctor wanted, I went in to see him. He sat me down and blurred it right out that I had had Hepatitis, and it was Hepatitis C. I wasn't to upset about it. I had heard the name before, but didn't know what it consisted of.

He also told me that it wasn't life threatening. The first thing he asked me was, did I drink alcoholic beverages. My answer was no; the next question had I ever had a blood transfusion. My answer was yes, I had one back in the early 1970's. We he sent me to seen another doctor. She was a gastroenterologist. She explained everything to me, and what my options were. I discussed the options with my husband, and thereafter I decided to try the treatment.

I started the Interferon Therapy right away. In the beginning I didn't know what to expect, however the doctor did tell me that I would experience different things, such as mood swings, feeling tired and being depressed. I experienced all of these things, but with the help of my family, especially my daughter, (who administered every single injection I had to have three times a week) I did better than I thought I could. Actually, I was able to go to work everyday; sometimes wondering if I would make it through the entire day, but with prayer, and a strong determination to overcome this set back, I was able to cope with things. The way was never easy, but I was determined.

I failed to mention that this treatment lasted for 48 weeks. After the completion of the treatment, I had blood work done. After about ten days to doctor called me on Easter Sunday to tell me that the treatment had been a success. This was wonderful news. (One thing I failed to mention, there is no guarantee that the treatment will work) but we have to at least try if there is chance we will get better. Good luck everyone, Lillie
